| Chuck's Family -- Grandfather Mentges immigrated from Eltville am Rhein, Germany, (near Frankfurt) in the late 1880's. He entered in New York, City, and stayed with either a family named Kirschner, or Mentges. He served in the American Navy for 6 years, including the Spanish American War. He then settled in Washington, D.C. and married Annie Mae Conner. All six of their children, including my father, Joseph W. Mentges, and most of the Grandchildren, were also born there. Many still live in the metropolitan area. Grandmother (Conner) Mentges' ancestors, Higgs and Booth, came from Leonadrtown, St Marys County, in Southern Maryland, to Washington, D.C. Grandfather McNeil married Ara Minnie Knight. They had twelve children, lived in Warsaw, Colonial Beach, and Warrenton, Virginia. My mother, Ethel Elizabeth McNeil, was born in Zacata, Virginia. Most of their children moved to Washington, D.C. I am seeking family members named, Mentges, Conner, Higgs, Booth, McNeil, Knight, and Kirschner. | Donna's Family -- Her fourth Great Grandfather, McKee, came to the U.S. from Ireland, about 1750, and settled in Pennsylvania. A son, Jack, was born about 1770. His descendants lived in the area of Allegheny County. His son, Kennedy J. McKee, 1790-1850, married Mary Kelley, 1793-1876. Their son, Kennedy J. McKee, Jr., 1836-1911 (He was a Civil War veteran), married Catherine Smith, 1848-1913. She was the daughter of John Smith and Elizabeth Drayer Clark. Their son, James Kennedy McKee,1884-1946, was Donna's Grandfather. In 1905 he married Mary Ann Walzer, 1889-1965. She was the daughter Joseph Walter Walzer and Mary Ann Karcher. The Walzer family originated in Germany. Her Great Grandfather, Atillio De Puccio (could be Debrso) was born about 1853. He came from Tuscany, Italy, about 1868. He took the name of Frank Russ, from the family he was related too, and living with, the Russ family of of Harrisburg, pennsylvania. He married Helen Bennett (born abt. 1853) daughter of Samuel Bennett and Hester Simcocks. Their son, Franklin Raymond Russ, married Emma Catherine Goetz in 1903. She was the daughter of, John Peter Goetz, born in Hunsbruch, Germany, and Catherine Smithberger. Most of the Russ family moved to the Washington, D.C. area, in the 1940's. Others are still in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area.
